Wind energy in India: TN occupying no 1 position in wind power generation

Replying to a Special Call Attention Motion given notice of by Ms Balabarathi (CPI-M) and Mr Gunasekaran (CPI), the Minister stoutly denied their charge that the government had ordered reduction in wind power production due to inadequate infrastructure to store power.

"We have necessary storage facilities. Only because of that we were able to provide electricity without any break to people of this State for the past few days," he said, adding, Tamil Nadu occupied the number one position in wind power generation when compared to other States in the country.

"Tamil Nadu is top among all states by generating 42 per cent of total wind power generation in the country," he said.

He said due to increase in wind power generation, several parts of the State were free from load-shedding for the last few days.

Mr Viswanathan said "in some areas, residents called up the local Electricity Board office and asked the reason for the power supply not being cut as part of the routine two-hour load shedding."
