Texas system operator tallies new wind power record

The Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) hit a record on June 19 for wind turbines production, with a high of 8,368 MW generated from wind power at 7:25 p.m. Wind farm generation from the state’s wind farms remained above 6,000 MW for the entire day.

Additionally, during the hour of peak demand (4 to 5 p.m.), wind energy averaged 7,790 MW, or just under 15 percent of total peak load of 52,423 MW.

The new mark topped ERCOT’s previous wind power record of 7,925 MW, established on April 13.
