Solar energy in Swaziland

This is indicated in the proposed Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) between Services Global L Power Swaziland (SGL Power) and the Swaziland Electricity Company (SEC). SGL Power intends supplying SEC with electricity for the next 25 years.

This will be through a project worth about E1.8 billion set on a farm near Manzini, where the planned output of electricity will be a maximum of 100 megawatts. The plant will consist of photovoltaic (PV) solar panels, inverters, step-up- transformers, switchgear and the required overhead transmission line to get the power to the nearest SEC grid.
The PPA indicates that SGL Power will be ready to supply power by September 2014 at E1.20 per unit. However, the following year a unit will cost E1.30, third year E1.45, fourth year E1.55, fifth year 1.65, sixth year E1.75 and seventh year E1.75.
