The Chief Executive Officer of Omatek Ventures Plc, Mrs. Florence Seriki has said the best way to address the short fall in power generation and distribution and also cut down on wasteful consumption of electricity in the country, is to adopt solar energy.
Seriki, who extended her business venture from assembling and manufacturing of computers and its accessories to solar electricity supply, said it was a necessary business that has been tested and proven to reduce Nigeria’s electricity consumption rate by 90 per cent, while Nigerians still enjoy 24/7 electricity supply.
Seriki made the disclosure in Lagos last week while receiving the Minister of Power, Prof. Chinedu Nebo and the Minister of Communications Technology, Dr. Omobola Johnson, as well as other industry stakeholders.
According to Seriki, the electricity challenge of Nigeria is not only in power generation and distribution, but also in the usage, insisting that so much energy is expended from the generated and distributed power, which she said could be saved and used by other Nigerians, if the sola technology is well embraced.
She said Omatek was already introducing low voltage electricity generated from solar energy to institutions like the University of Lagos and the financial sector, like the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE), thus saving them up to 90 per cent reduction in the consumption of electricity.
The company, which inaugurated its solar solutions during the visit of the ministers, had already inaugurated its 50KVA 3-phase off-grid solar solution factory that will represent the solar solution for factories, banks, telecoms firms, government and other organisations that require big power installations.
Off-grid and on-grid solutions, as well as Light Emitting Diode (LED) bulbs were displayed at the Omatek Lagos factory in Ikeja, during the visit. The ministers and other industry stakeholders from the private sector were also taken on a facility tour of the solar installations implemented by Omatek at the Greenwood School, Corona and the NSE.
The event also witnessed the inauguration of the 12watts, 20 watts, 500 watts power solutions, which serves as replacement of generators for small homes, shops, small and medium enterprises (SMEs), churches, rural electrification and rural system, street lighting implementation, schools, farmers, among others.
Pleased with what they saw during the facility tour, Nebo said the power saving solution from Omatek is capable of saving the country lots of money, if properly used.
Omobola, who was also pleased with the Omatek power solution, said: “I commend the management of Omatek for this initiative. While conducting the ministers round the facilities, Seriki said these are all-in-one installations assembled locally and packed with Omatek’s solar, inverter, battery, controller in all-in-one carton and can be self-installed.
“Omatek Solar Solution is a hybrid solution that provides 24 hours lighting/power solution, while providing 70 – 90 per cent cut/deduction in power consumption and drastically reducing power consumption by an average of 90 per cent on the overall ,grid, thus enhancing growth in the real sector and general economic development,” Seriki said.
According to her, “We have installed these solutions in schools, homes, offices and factories and we are proud to inform you that the education sector welcomed the initiative since it supports the provision of power and green energy, that powers school hostels and all reading areas with 24 hours lighting. This initiative, according to the education sector, bridges the digital gap in our schooling system, as students have stopped reading in darkness.”
She also explained that Omatek has almost completed the setup and the establishments of two local factories that will manufacture solar panels and the LED bulbs, saying only the all-in-one solutions are currently being produced locally.
