Gamesa and Bergé bolster CTL?s structure to lead the wind power logistics

Gamesa and Bergé Infraestructuras y Servicios Logísticos SL (BISL) have agreed to bolster the corporate structure of Compass Transworld Logistics (CTL), a company jointly owned by Gamesa (51%) and Bergé (49%) – to ensure that CTL continues to be the benchmark industry leader in the wind turbines logistics business in Spain and abroad.

To this end, CTL’s board of directors has expanded to six executives, after two new board members joined – one from each owner -, while the chairman and chief executive continue to represent Gamesa and Bergé, respectively.

This change to the board of directors comes a few months after Iñaki Iriarte was appointed CTL’s managing director.

Further changes to the company’s articles of association include the designation of Bergé as one of the main suppliers to CTL and Made (a Gamesa subsidiary) for the provision of core services such as port operations, special transport, vessel chartering, etc.

CTL, founded in 2007, is one of the leading logistics companies in the finished wind turbine industry, both for Gamesa and as a service provider to third parties. The company had revenues of 122 million euros in 2009.

CTL specialises in the door-to-door logistics business: overland transport (more than 10 million kilometres per year) from factory to distribution hub; from distribution hub to wind farms; and from factory to distribution hub to port; international projects (more than 200 shipments per year exclusively of wind product); handling of finished product (distribution hubs used exclusively for the storage and maintenance of wind energy generator components) and technological development associated with the wind energy industry.

Gamesa is a company specialized in developing technologies and R & D for energy sustainability, mainly wind power. It is a leader in Spain and is positioned among the world’s wind turbines manufacturers.

Gamesa has installed over 18,000 MW of wind turbines capacity worldwide and is also a world leader in the development, construction and sale of wind farms, having installed over 3,600 MW, and it owns a portfolio of 22,000 MW of wind farm. The company employs over 6,300 people worldwide and has production facilities in Europe, the USA, China and India.

BISL, a division of Bergé y Cía., is engaged in the following businesses: port operations, vehicle logistics, energy logistics, general logistics and shipping. BISL operates at 28 ports across a range of businesses and assets, all of them independently operated.
