and Texas’ Leadership in Wind Energy
Dallas Mayor Tom Leppert has proclaimed the week of May 23rd “Wind Works Week”. This first-ever “Wind Works Week” proclamation is in honor of the WINDPOWER 2010 Conference & Exhibition, which is America’s fastest-growing trade show and the world’s largest and most anticipated annual event for wind energy and being held May 23 – 26 at the Dallas Convention Center.
“As Mayor, I am proud to proclaim May 23-29 Wind Works Week to celebrate wind energy and the gathering here in Dallas of the U.S. wind energy industry for its WINDPOWER 2010 Conference & Exhibition,” said Mayor Leppert.
"Dallas is host to a growing number of companies that are involved in the wind business. Texas is Number One in wind power production in the country with wind farms that are the world’s largest. Our state is also host to new manufacturing facilities that make wind turbine components. Thanks to this new industry we are creating jobs, creating business opportunities, and powering our economy with a clean and inexhaustible source of energy. Wind works!"

The WINDPOWER 2010 Conference & Exhibition will bring to Dallas more than 23,000 wind industry leaders, government officials, and business executives. About 1,400 exhibiting companies, including wind power plant developers, turbine manufacturers, and companies illustrating the full range of supply chain manufacturers and service providers will be on the Exhibition show floor.
The WINDPOWER Conference & Exhibition, the nation’s fastest-growing trade show, will meet in Dallas, Texas, May 23-26. More than 20,000 wind industry leaders, government officials and business executives, and about 1,400 exhibitors including wind turbines and component manufacturers, wind power plant developers and the full range of supply chain manufacturers and service providers, will convene at the Dallas Convention Center for the world’s largest annual wind energy industry event.
The WINDPOWER Conference program includes 400 speakers and moderators, 190 poster presentations, and 60 educational sessions on leading wind energy topics organized into tracks with policy, business, and technical focuses. Proclamation
WHEREAS, the WINDPOWER Conference & Exhibition is the world’s largest and most anticipated annual event for wind energy and will be held from May 23]26, 2010 at the Dallas Convention Center; and
WHEREAS, more than 23,000 wind industry leaders, government officials, business executives, and over 1,280 exhibitors, including wind power plant developers, turbine manufacturers, and the full range of supply chain manufacturers and service providers will be in attendance; and
WHEREAS, wind power can play a major role in meeting America’s increasing demand for electricity and the industry has been growing at an aggressive pace. The U.S. is the world leader in wind power with over 35,000 MW and Texas has the first ranked wind resource in the nation, with wind farms now powering the equivalent of over 2.5 million homes; and
WHEREAS, Texas has a target of reaching 10,000 MW of renewable capacity by 2025, a target that the wind energy industry will meet in the coming years; and
WHEREAS, wind power generates no emissions, and displaces carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases that would otherwise be emitted by fossil fuel]fired electric generation. One megawatt]hour (MWh) of wind energy produced reduces CO2 emissions by roughly 1,200 pounds. Wind energy in Texas is already clearing Texas air and protecting the planet by reducing 12.75 million metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually; and
WHEREAS, the American wind industry supports 85,000 American jobs and continues to strengthen our economy, including over 10,000 wind industry jobs in Texas.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, TOM LEPPERT, mayor of the city of Dallas, and on behalf of the Dallas City Council, do hereby proclaim the week of Monday, May 24, 2010 as
WIND WORKS WEEK
in Dallas, Texas.
