Efforts to get Bosnia-Herzegovina’s (BiH) first wind farm built have moved forward, following the release of a procurement notice.

The proposed 44-megawatt (MW) wind farm in southern Mesihovina, near the town of Tomislavgrad, will cost an estimated 78 million euros ($95.4 million) and is one of a number of new energy projects that has received the green light from the government.

Germany’s development bank says it will finance Bosnia’s first wind power project with a euro71 million ($96.4 million) loan and euro1 million grant. Construction of the 22 wind turbines — each with a 2 megawatt capacity — is to be completed by the end of 2012.

A statement released by the bank, Kreditanstalt fuer Wiederaufbau, says Europe needs wind energy and Bosnia can deliver it after allocating more than euro200 million to Renewable Energy.
