Siemens Energy receives first photovoltaic order from Czech Republic

The plant, with a rating of 4 megawatts peak (MWp), will be erected in Dobré Pole, around 50 kilometers south of Brno, the second-largest city in the Czech Republic. After completion, scheduled for end of 2010, the solar power plant will provide nearly 1,000 households in the Czech Republic with environmentally friendly power.

As the general contractor, Siemens is responsible for the turnkey construction, engineering and project management of the photovoltaic power plant in Dobré Pole. The scope of supply includes the full balance of plant range with Siemens components, such as inverters, transformers, medium-voltage equipment as well as the control system.

"This first order from the Czech Republic underlines once again that we are on the right track with our photovoltaic plants business," said René Umlauft, CEO of the Renewable Energy Division. "As a full-range supplier with convincing project management we expect further orders for medium-sized photovoltaic power plants in the future."

Photovoltaic plants are part of the Siemens environmental portfolio with which the company earned revenues of nearly EUR23 billion in fiscal 2009. This makes Siemens the world’s largest provider of environmentally compatible technology. In the same period, the company’s products and solutions enabled customers to reduce their CO2 emission by 210 million tons. This amount equals the combined annual CO2 emissions of New York, Tokyo, London and Berlin.

The Siemens Energy Sector is the world’s leading supplier of a complete spectrum of products, services and solutions for the generation, transmission and distribution of power and for the extraction, conversion and transport of oil and gas. In fiscal 2009 (ended September 30), the Energy Sector had revenues of approximately EUR25.8 billion and received new orders totaling approximately EUR30 billion and posted a profit of EUR3.3 billion.
