Second Wind Collaborates at Annual AWEA Wind Resource and Project Energy Assessment Workshop

At the annual AWEA Wind Resource & Project Energy Assessment Workshop in Oklahoma City next week Second Wind, a developer of wind measurement systems, plans to celebrate with customers, colleagues and other wind epower experts as it takes its 30th birthday celebration on the road. The annual workshop is known to wind insiders as the place to gather for the latest discoveries about wind resource assessment, technology and what’s in store for the future.

Second Wind marked 30 years in business last month with an event in its hometown of Somerville, Mass. outside of Boston but is eager to share this important milestone at the popular AWEA workshop.

"Thirty years ago, Second Wind’s founders decided the wind power industry needed real data to make sound decisions," said Larry Letteney, president and CEO of Second Wind. "We continue to develop smarter and more powerful tools to make wind energy more successful. With the market’s best wind information systems and the best people, we look forward to the next thirty years of creating a greener planet."

In addition to its 30th anniversary celebration Second Wind founding partner Ken Cohn will participate on a panel entitled, "New Frontiers: Remote Sensing Using SODAR and LIDAR." Cohn joins other wind experts to discuss the role remote sensing plays in wind resource assessment and wind farm design. The panel will also offer attendees ideas for cost-effective use of remote sensing in today’s wind farm projects. Chaired by Dennis Elliott, Principal Scientist – Wind Resource Assessment, at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), the session takes place Wednesday, September 15, 2010 from 3:30-5:00 p.m. For more information on the entire workshop program click here.

Second Wind will also be demonstrating with its partner Mistaya Engineering the integration of Mistaya’s Windographer Version 2.1 analysis software and Second Wind’s wind data collection technology. Announced in June of this year the partnership enables users to export Triton and Nomad data directly to Windographer, with no custom coding or formatting. Together, the products provide energy companies with a seamless data collection and analysis solution.

"Our partnership with Mistaya is already providing customers with benefits such as powerful visualization, quality control, and statistical analysis features," said Second Wind Director of Business Development Lee Alnes. "These additional features show just how hard Tom Lambert and his engineers, along with our Second Wind team, work to bring customers better functionality as fast as possible."

Second Wind and Mistaya plan to demonstrate the following new features at Second Wind’s tabletop booth:

* Automatic recognition of Triton turbulence data;
* The ability to process vertical wind speeds and calculate inflow angle;
* A new data recovery analysis window that plots the data recovery rate versus height, time of day, temperature, vertical wind speed, and lots of other factors.

Second Wind develops wind measurement systems that make wind power pay off for consumers, investors and the environment. The company’s technology provides wind farm developers with the bankable wind data they need to plan, finance and operate highly efficient wind generation facilities. Second Wind’s systems are making wind farm development profitable in 50 countries on seven continents. Second Wind’s systems include the wind industry’s leading remote sensing system, wind data logger and web-based data service.
