Capgemini Partners with the Toronto Atmospheric Fund to Help City Prepare for Electric Vehicles

Working with TAF’s FleetWise EV300 program, which is designed to assist public and private fleets with the procurement and intelligent deployment of electric vehicles, Capgemini will look specifically at the implications for the GTA’s electricity grid of increased electric vehicle connection and charging.

The FleetWise EV300 program is focused on fleets, as these owners of high-mileage vehicles have a strong motivation and capacity to adopt leading-edge vehicle technology. The program delivers a collaborative approach to purchasing, education and assessment of electric vehicles specifically for fleet operators. Capgemini will provide an important knowledge component for the growing number of FleetWise EV300 participants through its assessment and monitoring of grid infrastructure issues.

‘Capgemini was the logical choice to support this bold program given its deep relationships with our utility partners, a hybrid fleet of its own, and a proof-of-concept vehicle-to-grid EV smart charging system,’ said Ben Marans, program director, FleetWise. ‘With Capgemini’s guidance, all the cars in this project will be monitored for driver behavior, charging infrastructure requirements, and performance under winter and summer driving conditions, so that we can adequately prepare for the day when there are thousands of electric vehicles on Toronto’s roads.’

The FleetWise EV300 initiative has already assisted in placing a number of EVs on the road in the Toronto area. FleetWise EV300 partners will be able to exchange information and experiences, while a working group will analyze data gathered through the initiative and make recommendations for what the city and utilities can do to prepare for a greater penetration of EVs in the GTA.
