Vestas receives 50 MW wind energy order in New Mexico, USA

Vestas has received a 50.4 MW wind power order for 28 V100-1.8 MW wind turbines from Element Power for the first phase of the 99 MW Macho Springs Wind Farm in Luna County, New Mexico, USA.

The contract includes delivery and commissioning along with a 10-year wind turbine service and maintenance agreement. Delivery is scheduled for early 2011 and commissioning is expected in mid-2011.

“The V100-1.8 MW wind turbine is an ideal turbine for low- and medium-wind speeds and will provide clean energy for thousands of homes for many years,” said Martha Wyrsch, President of Vestas Americas. “We look forward to serving Element Power as one of our new customers.”

Element Power has an option to purchase an additional 27 V100-1.8 MW wind turbines for the second phase of the project, which is targeted to proceed as early as next year.

“Element Power is very pleased to build our first North American wind power project and believe the V100-1.8 MW Vestas wind turbines will provide reliable and affordable renewable energy for Tucson Electric Power’s customers,” said Ty Daul, CEO of Element Power’s North American business.

“The V100 machine provides an ideal solution to maximize energy output at this site, and Vestas worked hard with us to ensure optimal efficiency from the start and is committed to help with those efforts during the 10-year service and maintenance agreement.”

Element Power develops, acquires, builds, and operates utility-scale solar and wind power projects globally. Owned by Hudson Clean Energy Partners, a leading global private equity firm that invests in renewable power, alternative fuels, energy efficiency and storage, Element Power is pursuing wind farm projects in the European, North American, and South American energy markets. Element Power’s principal offices are located in London, Madrid, and Portland, Oregon.

This order marks Vestas’ 14th North American deal announced in 2010, totaling 1,784 MW among four turbine types. Five Vestas customers have ordered V100-1.8 MW turbines in the last six months for projects in the United States and Canada.
